GOP pundit stupefies with extraordinary excuse for Trump admin failure

Former Trump administration official and right-wing commentator Sebastian Gorka left onlookers baffled Sunday after offering a puzzling explanation as to why President Donald Trump failed to adhere to his own timeline for ending his war against Iran.

Shortly after launching the U.S. attack on Iran, dubbed Operation Epic Fury, Trump indicated that the campaign would finish “within two to three weeks,” Fox News reported back on April 1. With the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran now stretching into its 71st day as of Sunday, Gorka was pressed on the discrepancy during an appearance on Newsnation.

“We did hear a much shorter time frame at the beginning of this,” the Newsnation host said. “Was this an optimistic take? How do we reconcile the original timeline with what we’re dealing with now?”

After first quoting an “ancient aphorism” about combating “your enemy,” Gorka pivoted to providing a “simple” explanation for why Trump’s war against Iran had extended to more than 10 weeks.

“There is a very simple answer to your question: we’ve just been too effective, along with our colleagues in Jerusalem! We have absolutely destroyed the leadership,” Gorka claimed.

He expanded on his answer by claiming that, because the U.S. military had been so effective at killing Iran’s leadership, it made “communicating and getting that final deal a little bit more complicated.”

MeidasTouch Editor-in-Chief Ron Filipkowski was mostly left dumbfounded by Gorka’s explanation.

“First they told us taking out leadership in Iran with the initial bombings was going to result in the regime being immediately overthrown by the people,” Filipkowski wrote Sunday in a social media post on X to his more than 1 million followers. “10 weeks later they are saying it is preventing them from reaching a peace deal.”
