South Korea’s stock market stunned investors again as the KOSPI all-time high rally continued on Monday. The benchmark index surged sharply, adding around ₩280 trillion in market capitalization in just one session.
What surprised traders most was the timing. The rally came even as geopolitical tensions escalated after the United States reportedly rejected a new Iran peace proposal and threatened additional military strikes. Normally, markets become cautious during periods of global uncertainty, especially when Middle East tensions affect oil prices and investor confidence.
Instead, South Korean equities pushed higher, showing strong risk appetite from both domestic and global investors. Recent reports show the KOSPI has become one of the world’s best-performing major stock indexes in 2026.
The main reason behind the explosive KOSPI all-time high move remains the AI and semiconductor boom. Investors continue pouring money into chipmakers such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix as global demand for AI infrastructure accelerates.
Samsung recently crossed the $1 trillion market cap milestone, becoming only the second Asian company to achieve that valuation after TSMC.
Analysts say South Korea is benefiting from a powerful combination of AI optimism, rising semiconductor prices, and improving investor sentiment. Goldman Sachs recently described South Korea as its “highest conviction” market in Asia and raised its long-term KOSPI target significantly.
Even with concerns surrounding Iran and potential US military escalation, traders appeared focused on growth opportunities rather than macro risks.
Earlier market weakness tied to Middle East tensions was quickly reversed as investors bought into technology and AI-related stocks. Recent trading sessions showed the KOSPI repeatedly recovering from geopolitical headlines and closing at fresh highs.
The latest surge highlights how strongly AI enthusiasm is currently influencing global markets. For now, bullish momentum in South Korea appears powerful enough to outweigh fears linked to international conflict.
