Casey Anthony triggers furious outcry with return to spotlight

Casey Anthony, who was acquitted of murdering her two-year-old daughter Caylee in one of the most polarizing criminal trials in American history, has quietly re-emerged in public life — this time as an LGBTQ advocate, researcher, and activist with a growing Substack following.

Anthony's Substack, titled "Beyond Case," describes her as a "Researcher. Consultant. Advocate. Activist. Author," and an "LGBTQ+ Ally." Her profile includes the tagline "We are the Resistance. We do not bow to mediocre white men." The account has attracted more than 11,000 subscribers.

The reemergence of Anthony has caught social media off guard, with screenshots of her Substack profile circulating widely on Threads and other platforms over the Memorial Day weekend.

Not everyone was willing to engage with the nuance. Podcast host Heather Ashley kept it simple: "Absolutely the f--- not."

The LGBTQ community itself was divided on whether Anthony's allyship was welcome. One commenter put it bluntly: "Listen, Casey Anthony... I appreciate your performative allyship. However, you're definitely not the ally we need attached to our community right now." Another noted the political irony of her progressive positioning, writing: "This country is so divided right now, but the one thing we all share is our hatred for Casey Anthony."

Anthony, who was 22 when she was arrested in 2008 following the disappearance of her daughter, was acquitted of murder and manslaughter charges in 2011 after a highly publicized trial that drew massive national television audiences. She has largely stayed out of the public eye since her acquittal.

Her new public profile marks a striking reinvention, positioning herself on the progressive side of several cultural and political debates at a moment when LGBTQ rights are under significant pressure from the Trump administration.
