MANILA, Philippines – Senator Alan Cayetano on Monday, May 11, was elected as Senate president, ousting Senator Tito Sotto.
The change of leadership comes amid the looming impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Senator Imee Marcos nominated Cayetano as the new Senate president.
At least 13 senators supported Cayetano’s leadership, including Senator Bato dela Rosa. Nine voted for Sotto. Cayetano and Sotto abstained.
