FIBER BROADBAND and technology solutions provider Converge ICT Solutions, Inc. has partnered with the Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) to support workforce upskilling and artificial intelligence (AI) readiness in the country’s information technology and business process management (IT-BPM) sector.

The partnership follows Converge’s membership in IBPAP, an industry association representing more than 400 member companies.

“We need to level up the skills of our workers and transform our industries to enable us to capture the opportunities being offered by the AI boom,” Converge Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder Dennis Anthony H. Uy said in a statement on Thursday.

He said the industry must equip workers with the skills needed to adapt to AI and other emerging technologies.

“The next step is to capacitate our workers with skills necessary to navigate AI and other emerging technologies,” he said.

He added that Converge’s membership in IBPAP presents “a prime opportunity for possible collaboration” as AI adoption accelerates.

“Even before we became a member, my mindset has always been to protect this industry of nearly two million workers. Since we are a global hub of business process outsourcing along with India, I’ve wanted to help upskill workers, especially for artificial intelligence preparedness,” he said.

IBPAP also collaborates with six industry associations: the Animation Council of the Philippines, Inc., Global Capability Center Philippines, Customer Xperience Association of the Philippines, Game Developers Association of the Philippines, Healthcare Information Management Association of the Philippines, and the Philippine Software Industry Association.

Last year, IBPAP reported that the Philippine IT-BPM industry employed 1.9 million workers and generated $40 billion in export revenues, accounting for more than 8% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). — Sheldeen Joy Talavera
