SHEIN generated $41.85 billion in 2025 revenue, but net income fell 39% to $2.06 billion. Q1 2026 revenue grew just 1.1%, operating margin fell to 2.9% and the company reported a $99 million net loss. This guide explains SHEIN’s revenue, profitability, geographic mix and business model ahead of its IPO.
SHEIN enters the public market as one of the world’s largest online fashion businesses, but the financial profile behind its Hong Kong IPO looks very different from the hypergrowth story that once supported a valuation close to US$100 billion.
The company generated US$41.847 billion in revenue in 2025, up 8.0%, while net income declined 38.7% to US$2.064 billion. Growth slowed further in early 2026, with Q1 revenue increasing just 1.1%. Operating income fell about 26%, operating margin declined to 2.9% and SHEIN reported a US$99 million net loss.
Part of that quarterly loss resulted from a US$328 million fair-value loss on convertible redeemable preferred shares, so the headline number does not represent operating performance alone. Nevertheless, the underlying business also faced higher fulfilment, marketing and trade-related costs.
For IPO investors, the central question is no longer whether SHEIN has scale. It clearly does. The question is whether a business generating more than US$40 billion in annual revenue can stabilize margins and return to stronger profitable growth under a more difficult global trade environment.

What to Know

  • Revenue increased from US$32.103 billion in 2023 to US$41.847 billion in 2025.
  • Revenue growth slowed from 20.7% in 2024 to 8.0% in 2025 and 1.1% in Q1 2026.
  • Net income fell from US$3.365 billion in 2024 to US$2.064 billion in 2025.
  • Net margin declined from approximately 8.7% to 4.9% over the same period.
  • Q1 2026 operating income fell about 26% to US$258 million, with operating margin declining to 2.9%.
  • U.S. revenue fell 14.3% year over year in Q1 2026.
  • In 2025, Europe was SHEIN’s largest individually identified region at 35.4% of revenue, while the broader rest-of-world category was larger at 40.5%.

How Much Revenue Does SHEIN Make?

SHEIN generated US$41.847 billion of revenue in 2025, compared with US$38.748 billion in 2024 and US$32.103 billion in 2023.
Those figures show that SHEIN has continued to expand in absolute terms. Annual revenue increased by nearly US$10 billion between 2023 and 2025, giving the company a scale comparable with some of the world’s largest consumer and e-commerce businesses.
The growth rate tells a different story.
Revenue increased 20.7% in 2024, but growth slowed to 8.0% in 2025. In Q1 2026, revenue reached approximately US$9.052 billion, only 1.1% higher than the same period a year earlier.
SHEIN has indicated that first-half 2026 revenue growth is expected to remain broadly around the Q1 rate. This is management guidance rather than a completed financial result, but it reinforces the slowdown visible in the reported numbers.
The company therefore enters its IPO as a much larger business than it was several years ago, but no longer as a hypergrowth one.

Is SHEIN Profitable?

SHEIN remained profitable on a full-year basis in 2025, although net profitability weakened substantially.
Net income reached US$3.365 billion in 2024 before falling 38.7% to US$2.064 billion in 2025. Net margin declined from approximately 8.7% to 4.9%.
It is important, however, to distinguish net profitability from operating profitability.
SHEIN’s full-year operating margin actually improved from approximately 2.5% in 2024 to around 4.1% in 2025. The decline in net income partly reflected a reduction in fair-value gains associated with preferred shares rather than a uniform deterioration across every profitability measure.
The operating picture weakened more clearly in Q1 2026. Operating income fell from about US$348 million to US$258 million, a decline of approximately 26%, while operating margin fell from 3.9% to 2.9%.
SHEIN also reported a US$99 million Q1 net loss, compared with a profit a year earlier. That result included a US$328 million fair-value loss on convertible redeemable preferred shares.
The most accurate interpretation is therefore that SHEIN remained a profitable business through 2025, but net profitability weakened and underlying operating pressure became more visible in early 2026.

Why Are SHEIN’s Margins Under Pressure?

SHEIN’s business model combines low prices, rapid product development and cross-border fulfilment. That model allowed the company to scale quickly but also makes earnings sensitive to shipping, tariffs, logistics and marketing expenses.
The United States has become a particularly important test.
Changes to U.S. de minimis treatment raised the cost of shipping many low-value packages directly from China. The impact has already appeared in SHEIN’s results, with U.S. revenue declining approximately 14.3% year over year in Q1 2026.
The EU has created similar pressure. It ended the €150 customs-duty exemption for low-value consignments from July 2026 and introduced an initial €3 flat customs duty, with another EU-wide handling fee scheduled later in the year.
SHEIN can reduce its exposure to these changes by using local warehouses, bulk shipping, diversified sourcing and higher prices. But each response alters some part of the economic model that originally allowed the company to combine extremely low prices with rapid global expansion.
Margins are therefore being shaped not only by consumer demand, but also by structural changes in cross-border commerce.

Where Does SHEIN Make Its Revenue?

SHEIN now generates revenue across a highly diversified international footprint.
In 2025, the United States contributed US$10.101 billion, or 24.1% of total revenue. Europe generated US$14.802 billion, or 35.4%, while the broader rest-of-world category contributed US$16.944 billion, or 40.5%.
This means Europe was SHEIN’s largest individually identified regional market, but not its largest geographic revenue bucket overall. Rest of world was larger because it combines multiple markets outside the U.S. and Europe.
The geographic mix has changed significantly over time. The U.S. accounted for approximately 29.4% of revenue in 2023, falling to 24.1% in 2025 and roughly 22.5% in Q1 2026.
That decline has been offset by growth elsewhere, allowing SHEIN to continue expanding even as its U.S. business weakened.
Diversification lowers dependence on any one country but creates a different challenge: SHEIN increasingly has to navigate many different tariff regimes, regulations, logistics networks and consumer preferences at the same time.

How Does SHEIN Make Money?

SHEIN remains primarily a product-sales business.
In 2025, product revenue represented approximately 88.7% of total revenue, while service revenue contributed 11.3%.
The company’s core model uses data on consumer demand to identify fashion trends, places relatively small initial production orders with suppliers and then quickly replenishes products that sell well. This allows SHEIN to test a large number of products without initially committing to the same inventory levels as a traditional mass retailer.
Apparel remains central to the platform, although SHEIN has expanded into beauty, accessories, home goods and other categories.
At the same time, SHEIN has been expanding its marketplace model. Third-party merchants increasingly use the platform to reach customers, generating service revenue for SHEIN without requiring the company to directly sell every product.
That service component has grown quickly, but direct and product-related sales still dominate the business. The future revenue mix therefore matters because a larger marketplace business could change both SHEIN’s growth profile and its margin structure.

How Important Is the U.S. to SHEIN?

The United States remains one of SHEIN’s most important individual markets, but its relative contribution is falling.
U.S. revenue totaled approximately US$10.101 billion in 2025, accounting for 24.1% of total revenue. That was down from 29.4% in 2023.
The decline became more pronounced in Q1 2026, when U.S. revenue fell approximately 14.3% year over year and represented about 22.5% of company revenue.
The U.S. matters not only because of its size but because it illustrates the challenge facing SHEIN’s traditional cross-border model.
Low-value parcel rules previously made direct shipping from China economically attractive. As tariff treatment changes, SHEIN has to absorb higher costs, raise prices or move more inventory through local fulfilment.
All three options can affect the economics of the business.

What Does Q1 2026 Tell Us About SHEIN?

Q1 2026 is particularly important because it provides a more current picture of the company than full-year 2025 figures.
Revenue reached US$9.052 billion, up only 1.1% year over year. Operating income declined approximately 26% to US$258 million, while operating margin fell to 2.9% from 3.9%.
The company ultimately reported a US$99 million net loss.
Part of that loss came from the US$328 million fair-value loss related to convertible redeemable preferred shares. That accounting item should not be confused with a US$328 million deterioration in the operating business.
Nevertheless, the operating figures show that the slowdown is real. Lower U.S. revenue, higher fulfilment costs and marketing expenses are affecting underlying profitability as well.
Management expects first-half revenue growth to remain broadly around the Q1 level, while operating margin is expected to be slightly below Q1. Those are forward-looking estimates rather than reported results, but they suggest that the softer environment is continuing into the IPO period.

How Does SHEIN’s Business Model Compare With Traditional Fashion Retail?

SHEIN differs from a traditional fashion retailer because it attempts to minimize the amount of inventory committed before consumer demand becomes clear.
Instead of ordering large quantities of a limited number of styles months in advance, SHEIN can launch small initial batches, monitor consumer response and quickly reorder products that perform well.
This model can reduce inventory risk and allows the platform to refresh its assortment extremely quickly.
The trade-off is reliance on a highly responsive supplier and logistics network. The system works best when manufacturing, shipping and customer acquisition remain efficient.
As tariffs rise and SHEIN shifts more inventory into local fulfilment, part of that model becomes more complex. The company may have to hold more inventory closer to customers or absorb additional logistics costs.
That makes the transition from a private hypergrowth company to a public global retailer particularly important. Investors will increasingly judge SHEIN not only on revenue expansion, but on how efficiently the supply chain can convert that scale into sustainable profit.

What Do SHEIN’s Fundamentals Mean for Its IPO Valuation?

SHEIN’s fundamentals help explain why the current IPO valuation is so different from its private-market peak.
The HK$47.60 to HK$49.50 offer range implies a market capitalization of approximately US$25.8 billion to US$26.8 billion, compared with a US$98.2 billion valuation in 2022.
At the top end, the valuation is equivalent to approximately 0.6 times 2025 revenue and 13 times 2025 net income.
Those multiples may appear low relative to SHEIN’s historical valuation, but the latest financial results explain why investors have become more cautious.
Revenue growth is close to flat, net margins have fallen from their 2024 level and operating profitability weakened in early 2026. At the same time, the cost of adapting SHEIN’s supply chain to changing trade rules is increasing.
The IPO therefore asks investors to value two things simultaneously: the enormous scale SHEIN has already built and the uncertainty around how profitable its next stage of growth will be.
